Canonical Posssesion as Coadjutor and Reception  
 

 

The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Bishop Patrick D’Rozario CSC of Chittagong as Coadjutor Archbishop of Dhaka Archdiocese on November 25, 2010. It has been announced in Rome and in CBCB Centre. A Holy Eucharist was arranged for canonical possession of Coadjutor Archbishop Patrick D’Rozario followed by reception and dinner on January 25, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ramna. Archbishop Joseph Marino, all the Bishops of Bangladesh, Msgr. Mark Kadima, priests and religious of Dhaka Archdiocese and a few priests from Chittagong diocese, a significant number of faithful attended the ceremony. Archbishop Paulinus Costa presided over the mass and also delivered homily. In his homily Archbishop Costa said that Dhaka is the centre of the Catholic Church in Bangladesh and the Archbishop of Dhaka has to maintain good relationship with the government, leaders of the other Churches, leaders of the Catholic Church and the politicians. And no doubt it is a very challenging task. Archbishop Costa urged the Coadjutor Archbishop to take this challenge with courage and fortitude.

 

 

A reception followed by the Eucharistic celebration. Advocate Promode Mankhin, Honorable State Minister for Cultural Affairs was present and spoke on this occasion. Other Christian leaders, Bishops, priests, religious were present in this remarkable event.

Before his appointment as Bishop of Rajshahi, Bishop Patrick D’Rozario CSC worked in the parish for a few years (Pastor at Padrishibpur Church and Barisal Catholic Church), Assistant Director at Holy Cross Scholasticate at Notre Dame College (1976 – 1980) and taught Moral Theology at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary (1976 – 1982). Bishop Patrick was the founding Director of Pastoral and Retreat Centre at Barisal. While teaching in the Major Seminary he was the Dean of Studies and founding Editor of Prodipon, theological and pastoral review. Bishop Rozario CSC was installed as Bishop of Chittagong in April 21, 1995.

 

 

At present Bishop Patrick D’Rozario CSC is the Vice President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh (CBCB), Chairman of the Catholic Education Board and the Chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Laity.
